It's only a few years after that it did an amazing job - because it scaled so damned high.

But every engine id Software has made when it started - was too heavy to handle. I understand a lot of the views here thinking it sucks. I just want to run around and frag people! :) I know a lot of other Quake3 afficianados will say the same - and that's who this game is for.Īs far as the Doom3 engine is concerned. UT 2004 has dodge, double jumps, special weapons that you can use in a multitude of ways but well. The KISS method is used in Quake 4's multiplayer - keep it simple stupid. When people bring about the idea of "Quake", to my mind immediately comes crazy multiplayer fragfests. but that wasn't what I was interested in. Some parts of the game look absolutely stunning, while other parts do look like they came from Quake 2, literally. With that being said, the start of the game hardly explained anything other than "A lone marine survived and took out the Strogg boss dood, let's finish the job!" Sure its Quake and it doesn't need a storyline, but just a little could have gone a long way.Īnd for the person who mentioned the textures being blurry or pixelated, yes they are. Most people here have probably never played Quake 2, only Quake 3. Oh and the start of the game, was pathetic if you ask me. Oh and if you don't like my newsposts, you don't have to read them. Number two, it is so linear and scripted I just couldn't get into it much. It doesn't FEEL like Quake to me number one. Thus, I do not like the gameplay in Quake 4. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a graphics #, people on these forums know my stance on graphics: runs at 50+ fps with everything maxed, yet Quake 4, if I'm lucky gets 25 fps. Where as every other high end game out now (except Battlefield 2, but that's another moan story) runs smooth as butter on my rig. I have the hardware to handle it, yet it handles like garbage pretty much. I never liked the Doom 3 engine, and I probably never will. I'm just stunned that you disagree with my opinion on the Doom 3 engine.
